Fresh Sage Cold Remedy

It’s flu season (or maybe the tail end) and let’s just say that I’ve caught both the flu, gotten over that, and just a month later, I’ve caught a cold! During the day, I’m constantly talking to, meeting, and interacting with different people so you can imagine the germ exposure I experience throughout my day. As much as I try to fight it and manifest that I’m not sick, more often than not, it still gets me one way or another.

So here I am, sinuses congested, mind in a fog – the real deal. I can hardly breathe through my nose and as a result, my mouth is now really dry.

Feeling the same? Or maybe you’re just stuck in a congested head cold just as I am? Read on, friend.

Today, I took a look in my kitchen and the freshest herb I had available was sage. So why not use it? Sage has extraordinary qualities that I have come to know and love. I love burning sage in my home by the way – it’s got a great cleanser!

Benefits of Sage

Since Sage is the main star here, let me list a few great benefits for you:

  • Brain Boost – Sage, when consumed or smelled, has a wonderful quality that aids in boosting cognitive function. It has been researched and prove to increase memory, clarity, and concentration. For those in a fog, utilize sage for that clarity you need!
  • Antioxidants – Sage has wonderful antioxidant properties that help to neutralize any free radicals. Combined with lemon, you’ve got a free radical fighter, and a subtle alkalizer!
  • Anti-Inflammatory – Sage also has anti-inflammatory properties, most specifically in the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts. This will help with inflammation in the cardiovascular, and also help those who suffer arthritis and gout! (Also great for menstrual cramps, ladies!)

Fresh Sage Cold & Clarity Remedy

What You’ll Need

  • 6 or 7 (or just a nice little handful) of Fresh Sage leaves
  • 1-2 tablespoons of lemon (I love lemon, so I go a little crazy)
  • 1 tablespoon of honey (it’s all up to how sweet you’d like your tea)
  • A few optional pinches of cayenne (great for breaking up your congestion!)

Directions

  1. Bruise your sage leaves and put them in a cup, jar, or other drinking vessel.
  2. Bring water to a rolling boil and then pour into your cup over your sage leaves.
  3. Steep for about 7-10 minutes.
  4. Strain.
  5. Add honey, lemon, and cayenne to taste.
  6. Enjoy! (careful, it’s hot!)
